WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter performed a dramatic “one-skid” hot landing in Washington County Saturday.

A one-skid landing is a technique used in rugged terrain and steep slopes where the topography prevents a normal landing with both skids on the ground, according to the Mountain Rescue Association.

A Facebook post from Washington County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue said a hiker became sick while hiking on Red Mountain and had to call for assistance at approximately 3 p.m.

“Due to the terrain and limited access, we called for air assistance,” the post said. “Special thanks once again to Arizona Department of Public Safety rescue helicopter for the assist.”

The Sheriff’s Office shared two videos of the Arizona DPS helicopter hot loading the patient from the side of the mountain.

The patient was transported Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George in good condition.
