MILLCREEK, Utah, Sept. 22, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Emergency and repair crews are on the scene of a large water main break and mud slide near the mouth of Parleys Canyon.
The break, on a hill above Interstate 215 East in the northbound lane, has closed the ramp to Interstate 80, and reduced northbound traffic to one lane, according to information from the Utah Department of Transportation.
After the water was turned off, sections of the hillside began to slide downward due to water-saturation of the soil.
Officials asked bystanders to back up to a safe distance, and crews used heavy equipment to begin clearing the mud that had covered the roadway.
Drivers are advised to expect delays through the area, and asked to use an alternate route if possible.
