WEST JORDAN, Utah, May 10, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The West Jordan Police Department has identified a teenager shot dead while driving on Redwood Road, and has released limited information about the juvenile suspect taken into custody.
“Victim in last night’s shooting at 7800 S. Redwood is 19-year-old Caeser Manenche,” a police statement says. “Police Department located suspect vehicle + arrested a 16-year-old documented gang member who had ongoing feud with victim.
“PD determined this was a targeted act + are following leads on add parties involved.”
Because of his age, the juvenile suspect’s name will not be released unless a judge rules at a later date that he will be tried as an adult. The charges he is likely to face have not yet been announced.
Police initially responded at 9:44 p.m. Sunday after a call reporting a multiple vehicle traffic accident with injuries at 7800 S. Redwood Road.
“One of the drivers had gunshot wounds,” West Jordan Deputy Chief of Police Jeremy Robertson said at the scene. He said three or four vehicles were involved in the crash.
The wounded driver was transported to the hospital in very serious condition and died of his injuries.
Witnesses told West Jordan police investigators two vehicles were racing or chasing each other when shots were fired from a low-profile Chrysler 300, dark gray or silver in color, with tinted windows.
Police are asking anyone with information that might be helpful to investigators to call 801-840-4000.
Gephardt Daily will update the story as more details become available.
