Winter weather advisory issued for northern Utah Sunday night through Monday afternoon

UTAH, Jan. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a winter weather advisory for northern Utah that will take effect at 11 p.m. Sunday and go through to 2 p.m. Monday.

A tweet from the NWS Salt Lake City on Sunday afternoon said the areas under advisory are Cache Valley, the Wasatch Front, the Wasatch Back/Mountain Valleys and Uinta County.

The tweet went on to say that snow, with areas of blowing snow, is expected in the advisory areas.

“Another storm will impact northern/central Utah Monday on the heels of Sunday’s storm,” the tweet said. “Accumulating snow will impact the Monday morning commute for Wasatch Front/Cache Valley.”

The Salt Lake City Airport also tweeted that snow removal crews are “working hard to keep runways clear during today’s snowstorm. About 90 flights were delayed with four outbound and three inbound flights cancelled.” The tweet advised passengers should check with their airline regarding potential impacts to flights.

A previous winter weather advisory was issued for the Central and Southwest Mountains, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, Southern Utah Mountains, Wasatch Mountains I-80 North, Western Uinta Mountains and Wasatch Mountains South of I-80 that is in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday.

It’s safe to say that anyone who is driving in Utah through Monday afternoon should use extreme caution and be ready for an icy glaze and build-up of snow on the roadways.
