SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, July 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman has been arrested after allegedly holding a man hostage in a motel room then a residence in Salt Lake City for a full week.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake County said Michelle Borg, 35, is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, aggravated assault, a third-degree felony and fugitive from justice– warrant for arrest, a third-degree felony.
The arresting officer said he was called out to a report of an aggravated kidnapping Saturday which was reported to have originally occurred at a Motel 6 at 315 W. 3300 South in South Salt Lake.
“The victim, an adult male, called 911 and was located by Salt Lake City police at an address in Salt Lake City,” the probable cause statement said. “Information was given by the victim he was held in handcuffs against his will for several days at the Motel 6, transferred to the Salt Lake City address and held for several more until released.”
The suspect, Michelle Borg, was located and taken into custody.
“During a recorded interview the victim said he was staying at Motel 6 when Michelle Borg, who he knows, arrived at his room on Sunday, July 14,” the statement said. “She arrived with several people in order to set up printers to forge documents. Michelle accused the victim of stealing documents and at some point Michelle ordered the victim be handcuffed.”
Borg and another man allegedly chained and handcuffed the victim to the toilet, where he stayed for about two days.
“During this time he reported having been punched by Michelle, his tooth knocked out and his arm burned with a torch,” the statement said. “There was a visible burn mark on his right arm and a missing tooth consistent with his story. He also reported that at some point Michelle produced a handgun and pointed it at him.”
On approximately Tuesday, July 16, the victim was moved to the address in Salt Lake City. There he was chained and handcuffed to what he described as a half-moon chair for several more days, the statement said. The victim said that the other man “fed him and helped him while there.”
Borg left at some point Saturday and the man let the victim go, the statement said. As the victim was leaving, Borg returned. The victim called police on his cell phone and Borg was taken into custody, the statement said.
The other man was interviewed and said he had been at the Motel 6 and had seen the victim handcuffed to the toilet. He also confirmed the victim was held at the house in Salt Lake City for several days. A consent search of the residence was conducted.
“In a small wood chair with a half-moon shaped top was located a chain attached to a pair of handcuffs,” the statement said.
After being read her Miranda rights, Borg agreed to be interviewed. She reported having stayed with the victim at Motel 6 and said they had an argument over him stealing items from her. She denied any of the allegations that the victim had been kidnapped and held against his will.
The alleged felony was committed while Borg was on probation or parole; she also has a extraditable warrant for her arrest out of Idaho.
