WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – APRIL 11, 2015 (GEPHARDT DAILY) A 40 year old woman was killed Friday night when she apparently ran out into oncoming traffic in West Valley City.

According to Lt. Julie Jorgensen of West Valley City Police, around 11 p.m., Nicole DeHerrera, was found lying in the road by a passing West Valley Police officer after he noticed traffic was slowing down at 5600 West about 3447 South and he got out to investigate.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance but then transported by helicopter to the University of Utah medical center where she died.

It appears that it was just an unfortunate accident but there continues to be an investigation into the incident. DeHerrera was struck by a passing pickup truck as she crossed  from the west to the east on 5600 West.

Speed or alcohol does not appear to be a factor for the driver however there was a trace of alcohol smell on the victim.

It is unclear why DeHerrera ran into traffic at this time.
