Jan. 19 (UPI) — More than a dozen people were injured after a car plowed through a crowd on a beach in Brazil on Thursday night.
Military police in the city of Rio de Janeiro confirmed 15 people were injured after a vehicle drove onto a boardwalk at Copacabana beach.
Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle and terrorism was not a factor.
The driver was arrested at the scene and transferred to a local precinct.
Officials said the driver experienced some kind of epileptic attack that caused the vehicle to swerve into the crowd.
A small black car was seen with its hood lifted in the sand as investigators surveyed the area and first responders tended to the victims.
