Nov. 21 (UPI) — British counter-terrorism detectives launched an investigation Wednesday after two explosive devices were found in a London apartment.
The Metropolitan Police Service said officers responded to calls at 9:34 a.m reporting two suspicious devices in an unoccupied apartment in the northwestern borough of Harlesden. The apartment was in the process of being refurbished.

Officials evacuated the block of apartments and closed nearby roads as a precaution while officers investigated the devices.

Initial assessment at the scene indicated both suspicious objects were improvised explosive devices, which were made safe and recovered for further forensic examination.

Officers searched the surrounding apartments after recovering the devices and residents were permitted to return to the area after all were deemed safe, but officers continued to investigate the site where the devices were found.

“The public’s safety is our top priority, and I would like to pay tribute to the specialist officers who attended and were able to safely recover the devices,” Chief Superintendent Simon Rose said.

Police made no arrests.

Rose said Counter Terrorism Command would lead the next stage of the investigation as they work to determine how and why the devices were placed in the apartment.
