LOS ANGELES, March 5, 2016 (UPI) — The baby who lit up Bernie Sanders supporters when he appeared at a Las Vegas rally in costume as the presidential candidate has died of SIDS. He was nearly 4 months old.

Oliver Jack Carter Lomas-Davis died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome on Feb. 25. His family is trying to raise money to cover the burial expenses, as well as counseling.

Photos of the baby in a gray-haired wig, tie, and black, thick-rimmed glasses went viral on Feb. 14, and he was quickly dubbed “Bernie Baby.”

The boy’s mother, Souxsie Lomas, announced the death on Facebook, saying “I love you dearly, I love you most. I love you with all my heart and soul. I know that God will keep you near since God and truth are here.”

A wake is scheduled for Monday and his burial on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

“Oliver Jack Carter Lomas-Davis was an adorable infant who brought smiles to not only his family, but to millions online,” his online memorial read. “Oliver’s mother, aunt and family are mourning the tragic and surprising loss of this incredible baby boy.”

The National Institutes of Health describe SIDS as the sudden death of an infant for unexplained causes and the leading cause of death in children under 1 year old.
