OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 22 (UPI) — An Oklahoma City police officer convicted of 18 sexual assaults has been sentenced to 263 years in prison to be served consecutively.
Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, received the sentence Thursday for his Dec. 10 conviction, which included four counts of first-degree rape. He initially faced 36 counts for attacks on black women.
Jurors selected punishments ranging from five to 30 years for each crime, and Oklahoma County, Okla., Judge Timothy Henderson ordered Holtzclaw to serve them consecutively. Barring an appeal in a higher court, it is unlikely Holtzclaw will ever be paroled.
Three of his victims attended court proceedings Thursday and addressed the court, including one who reported the June 2014 assault to police, after which Holtzclaw was put on paid leave. He was fired in January 2015.
A second victim told of being taken to an abandoned school and sexually assaulted. Another victim present, Holtzclaw’s youngest, at 17 at the time of the assault, was raped on her mother’s front porch.
Throughout the trial, Holtzclaw denied all allegations. At the sentencing hearing Thursday he glared at the three victims as they read statements, but they did not look at him.
