FREDERICKSBURG, Va., Oct. 25 (UPI) — Two Virginia high school students were arrested in a foiled plot to call in a bomb threat and shoot people as they ran from the school buildings, police said Saturday.

The Riverbend High School students, ages 17 and 15, had access to weapons that were to be used in the incident, including guns and knives, police said. The boys, who were not identified, were being held at a juvenile detention center on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The 17-year-old was arrested Oct. 12 and the 15-year-old was arrested Friday.

Investigators said they searched both boys’ homes and found evidence of the plot. There was no specific person to be targeted, police said.

“It became apparent that these two were serious and in their planning stages to carry out acts of violence with firearms and with knives … and that they planned to do this in the school,” Spotsylvania Sheriff spokesman Capt. Jeffery Pearce said.

The teens will face a judge Monday.
