Wisconsin Capitol Given all Clear After ‘Credible Bomb Threat’
MADISON, Wis., July 8 (UPI) — Wisconsin capitol police gave the “all clear” after evacuating the capitol building Wednesday for a bomb threat.Around 5:30 p.m. local time, police said the state capitol grounds in Madison were safe to enter despite an earlier “credible threat.”
“Due to a credible bomb threat, we are evacuating the State Capitol,” the Wisconsin Department of Administration said in a statement earlier in the day.
State Rep. Tyler August had told the legislature to leave the building around 3:45 p.m. local time while they were in the middle of debating the state budget, WKBT-TV in La Crosse, Wis., reported.
Everyone in the building was asked to walk across the street while police investigate.
Capitol police said the Concerts on Square event will go on as scheduled at 7 p.m.
