MOSCOW, Russia, Nov. 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Russia President Vladimir Putin says he’s looking forward to working with a Donald Trump administration and hopes to “lift Russian-U.S. relations out of the current crisis, resolve issues on the international agenda, look for effective responses to global security challenges.”

The comments were posted Wednesday on the Kremlin’s official website.

The Russian strongman said he is confident the countries can establish a “constructive dialogue based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and genuine consideration for each others’ positions.”

“This would be in the interests of both peoples and of the entire international community,” Putin said.

The Russian dictator had been the subject of great debate during the presidential campaign, especially after U.S. security officials accused Moscow of hacking emails belonging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign staff.

In statements made to Russia TV, Putin talked about Trump’s overtures to improve relations between the two countries.

“We understand the way to that will be difficult, taking into account the current state of degradation of relations between the US and Russia,” Putin said.

“As I have repeatedly said, that it is not our fault that Russia-US relations are in that state. Russia is ready and wants to restore the fully fledged relations with the US. I repeat, we understand this will be difficult, but we are ready to play our part in it.”
