Three Morgan State Football Players Stabbed on Campus
Three Morgan State University football players were stabbed on campus Tuesday afternoon.
The stabbings, which are the third violent incident police have responded to on campus in a week, happened outside the cafeteria about 2:05 p.m.
One player was stabbed in the chest and taken to a hospital in very serious condition. Another player was stabbed in the arm and a third in the back. One of them was treated at the scene and did not go to a hospital. All three are expected to survive.
One suspect who is a student at the school was taken into custody and several “persons of interest” were detained for interviews.
In a statement by Morgan President David Wilson he promised that disciplinary action for any students involved would be forthcoming. “I want to assure the University community that we here at Morgan take the safety of the entire University quite seriously, and as such, the behaviors that we have seen from a few of our students over the past several days will simply not be tolerated.”
Wilson further stated ” Later this evening at 6 pm in the Student Center Theater, I will start a campus-wide conversation around the values we hold high here at Morgan—respect, civility, integrity, leadership, academic excellence, and pride, among others. It is my intention to go to every residential hall, along with Dr. Banks, within the coming days to speak with students directly about what we value at Morgan.”
Baltimore police asked anyone with information about Tuesday’s stabbings to call 410-396-2444. Wilson said students emotionally affected by the incident should call the Morgan State counseling center at 443-885-3130.
