Jameis Winston’s Lawyer Says He’s “not ready” For NFL Off-Field

VILLANOVA, Pa., April 10 (UPI) — With his each move and word being scrutinized, the last thing Jameis Winston needed was negativity from his own camp.

With the NFL draft coming up April 30, Winston is largely considered the No. 1 overall pick.

“Jameis is ready to be an NFL quarterback on the field, but he is not ready to be an NFL player off the field,” Jameis Winston’s attorney.David Cornwell told USA Today.

Cornwell worked with Winston in a battle against sexual assault allegations during his three seasons at Florida State University.

Later, Cornwell took to Twitter to say:

“Jdubb is not unique. Issue of readiness is why we have #nfl rookie symposium n the resources of #nfl player engagement. Jdubb will b fine.”

In the USA Today article, Cornwell went on to tell a story about visiting the office of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell with Winston. Cornwell said after Winston marveled at a Super Bowl trophy, he told his client he would rather see him win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

“We have to assist him in growing and developing as a man,” Cornwell told Buzzfeed. “And it’s not going to be easy.”
