LINCOLN, Neb., Nov. 17 (UPI) — Authorities are investigating a claim of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred during a party at the home shared by a pair of University of Nebraska starting football players, officials said Tuesday.

A 20-year-old woman contacted Lincoln, Neb., police on Sunday afternoon to report the alleged assault — which she claimed happened in the early morning hours Sunday at the home.

The student-athletes said they have been interviewed by authorities. No arrests have been made, though, police said.

The players who live there said they arrived at the home just after midnight after returning from New York, where they played Rutgers earlier Saturday.

“I don’t know why [she] said that,” one of the players told the Omaha World-Herald. “We’re confused about the whole situation. From what we are hearing, everything was consensual.”

The woman notified authorities of her claims after visiting a hospital Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Mike Riley said Tuesday that he will wait to hear from school investigators before determining what action, if any, could be taken against the players.

“It’s a university matter, not just an Athletic Department matter,” he said.

It was not immediately clear who the allegations were made against or whether the woman was at the home at the time of the supposed assault.

Nebraska’s athletic department said Tuesday that it is aware of the allegations and is cooperating with authorities.

The Huskers do not play a game this week, but are back in action Nov. 27 when they will play the fifth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.
