Saints Refute Drew Brees Trade Rumors

SaintsNEW ORLEANS, March 24 (UPI) — Saints general manager Mickey Loomis responded to rumors the team was trading quarterback Drew Brees, saying it is not the right time.

Since the team traded tight end Jimmy Graham, the Saints have fielded rumors they will be trading the 36-year-old quarterback. Coach Sean Payton denied the rumors, saying the team was not planning on letting Brees go quite yet.

“Yeah, it’s not that time … We’re not interested in moving on from Drew Brees,” Payton said. “He’s going to be a part of our next championship.”

Loomis backed up that sentiment during NFL owner’s meetings.

“And yet we’re not gonna be able to just force a pick and take somebody just because we think Drew’s getting older. It’s gotta be the right guy at the right time, and that hasn’t happened yet,” he told reporters.

Loomis said he still had “high confidence” in Brees.
