Angie’s List to Halt Expansion in Indiana
The Indiana law formally known as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act allows business to refuse service to people who identify as LGBT. Businesses have spoken out against the law and some have changed their businesses practices. Salesforce.com has cancelled all travel for their employees to the state.
Angie’s List announced in October it would seek to add a $40 million expansion on their Indianapolis headquarters which has now been indefinitely postponed.
“Angie’s List is open to all and discriminates against none and we are hugely disappointed in what this bill represents,” said Chief Executive Bill Oesterle in a statement.
Angie’s List isn’t the only one speaking against the law. Apple CEO Tim Cook wrote an op-ed Sunday asking people to speak against the Indiana law and ones similar to it across the country.
The NBA, the WNBA, the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever issued a statement guaranteeing their business practices in the state would not change and criticizing the new law.
“The Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever and Bankers Life Fieldhouse have the strongest possible commitment to inclusion and non-discrimination on any basis. Everyone is always welcome at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. That has always been the policy from the very beginning of the Simon family’s involvement and it always will be,” said Pacers and Fever owner Herb Simon.
