Update: 5 deputies shot, one fatally, in Colorado shooting, 2 civilians wounded

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colorado, Dec. 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Five deputies have been shot, one fatally, and two civilians wounded during a domestic disturbance in a Denver, Colorado suburb Sunday morning.

“Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance resulting in shots fired. 5 deputies shot by suspect. 1 deputy confirmed deceased. 2 civilians also shot by suspect. Suspect shot & believed to be dead & no longer a threat,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.

The shooting took place at 5:07 a.m. after deputies arrived at an apartment complex at 3403 East County Line Rd.

Deputies had made their way inside the apartment and were outside the suspect’s bedroom door when he suddenly opened fire.

Douglas County Sheriff Deputy Zachari Parrish, 29, was mortally wounded. 4 other deputies were also wounded, but managed to crawl to safety.

At least two residents in an adjacent apartment were shot through the walls as the gunman continued firing random salvos throughout the morning.

The suspect, whose name has yet to be released, was later shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies.

Conditions of the other deputies and civilians who were wounded have yet to be released.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued a “Code Red” alerting nearby residents to shelter in place.
