JUPITER ISLAND, Fla, March 27, 2026 (Gephardt Daily/UPI) — Tiger Woods was arrested Friday after a rollover crash in South Florida and faces DUI-related charges, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.

Budensiek said at a Friday afternoon press conference that the crash happened just before 2 p.m. on South Beach Road on Jupiter Island, where police found a Land Rover overturned on the driver’s side after striking a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck.

Investigators said the pickup was headed north and slowing to turn into a driveway when the driver saw a dark-colored Land Rover approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. The pickup driver tried to move over, but the narrow two-lane road had no shoulder.

The Land Rover swerved in an apparent attempt to avoid a crash, clipped the rear of the trailer and overturned, Budensiek said.

Authorities identified Woods as the driver of the SUV when he crawled out through the passenger-side door after the crash.

“Our DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” Budensiek said.

Deputies conducted roadside tests while taking into account Woods’ previous injuries and surgeries, Budensiek said. Woods was then arrested and booked into the Martin County Jail.

Budensiek said investigators did not believe alcohol was a factor. “Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros,” he said. But Woods refused to submit to a urinalysis, leading to charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

No one was injured in the crash, according to Budensiek.

According to UPI, Woods participated in the TGL Finals on Tuesday in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The tech-infused virtual golf league event was his first official competition in 13 months. The 15-time major winner said he was “trying to make progress” toward playing in the 2026 Masters Tournament.

The 2026 Masters will be held from Thursday through Sunday in Augusta, Ga. Woods did not provide a timeline for his decision playing in the Masters, but said he planned to be on site.

He previously announced plans to attend the annual Champions Dinner and to be present for the opening of The Loop at the Patch, a new nine-hole course that he designed.
