TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, May 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The armed man who sparked a SWAT standoff Monday afternoon in Taylorsville has surrendered.

According to Lt. Brian Lohrke, Unified Police Department, dispatchers got a call at about 4:30 p.m. from a woman who reported an altercation and said another party had said he was “going to get a gun.”

Police responded to the scene, at 4155 W. 6550 South. While outside the residence, police reported hearing what sounded like two shots.

Lohrke said two people were able to get out of the house, and a male and a female remained inside. For nearly an hour, officers and trained negotiators tried to contact the people inside the house, but got no response.

The man, who was identified later Monday night as 46-year-old Franklin Asifoa, gave himself up at about 6:15 p.m. He was booked into jail on felony charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, and misdemeanor criminal mischief, a UPD tweet said.
