Driver In Finland Slapped With $60,000 Ticket
HELSINKI, Finland, March 13 (UPI) — A driver in Finland was fined nearly $60,000 after getting caught speeding 14 miles per hour over the limit.
Reima Kuisla was driving to the airport when he was seen going 103 km/h (64 mph) in an 80km/h (50 mph) zone, costing him 54,024 euros.
The high price for high speeds is because Finland calculates moving violation fines includes a percentage of daily income based on the previous year’s tax return. Kuisla earned more tha
n 6.5 million euros ($7 million) in 2013.
“Ten years ago I wouldn’t have believed that I would seriously consider moving abroad. Finland is impossible to live in for certain kinds of people who have high incomes and wealth,” Kuisla said on Facebook with an image of the ticket.
This is not the first time one of Finland’s wealthier residents has been burned by the ticketing system. In 2002, a Nokia executive paid 116,000 euros (over $103,000) for speeding on a Harley.
