ASHLAND, Ore., July 14 (UPI) — An Oregon entrepreneur has reached his fundraising goal for the Hydro Hammock, a hybrid hammock/hot tub powered by a gas water heater.

Benjamin Frederick, who reached his $50,000 crowdfunding goal on KickstarterTuesday, said the Hydro Hammock is made from “a sealed synthetic high-tensile-strength fabric” that can support the weight of two adults and 50 gallons of water, but only 20 gallons are needed “for an amazing bath.”

The invention uses a portable water heater that recirculates water from a garden hose or other source and can be converted into an outdoor shower that can run on as little as 3 gallons of water.

The Hydro Hammock also comes in a double-layer model, which can be filled with an insulation pad or water to convert it into a water bed.

Users without anywhere to string up their hammock can spread the pad out in a hole in the sand or snow to make their own portable hot tub.

“It is a unique invention which offers so much to the future,” Frederick wrote on the Kickstarter page.

Frederick said the initial production will be limited to 1,000 units.
