POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Nov. 3 (UPI) — Police in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., were investigating candy handed out at the Poughkeepsie Galleria mall after a trick-or-treater found a pill in her chocolate bar.

Joann Turner of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., said the pink pill was inserted in a Snickers bar, lodged inside the chocolate candy, the wrapper of which was open. Her daughter found it after visiting shops in the mall dispensing candy on Saturday afternoon.

Turner called police, which was working with stores in the mall, 85 miles north of New York City, to investigate the incident. Police were also performing tests on the pill, which had the number “4” stamped into its surface.

Police advised parents to check their children’s trick-or-treat candy.

The Galleria also advised caution in an emailed statement.

“[The] Poughkeepsie Galleria has hosted our annual ‘Malloween’ event for years to provide a fun and safe place for the community to enjoy Halloween. We are working closely with the tenants and Town of Poughkeepsie police and continue to encourage everyone to always check their candy from every source — grocery, party, trick-or-treating, etc.”

There have been no other reports of tampered candy obtained at the mall.
