Remote-controlled R2-D2 Mini-fridge is the Droid You’re Looking For
TOKYO, June 10 (UPI) — Electronics firm Haier unveiled the answer to every thirsty Star Wars fan’s prayers — a remote-controlled R2-D2 mini-fridge.
Haier Asia’s Aqua division held a demonstration last week to officially unveil the prototype droid, which moves via remote control and sports R2-D2’s signature swiveling head and a variety of beeping and booping sounds mimicking the astromech droid language.
The center section of the device opens to reveal a two-shelf mini-fridge to ensure Jedi consumers don’t run out of refreshing beverages.
The R2-D2 fridge is scheduled for a 2016 release in Japan, but information on pricing and international availability has yet to be announced by Haier.
