MADRID, Dec. 15 (UPI) — Police in Spain made an unexpected discovery at a local park when they came across a lunchbox filled with large cockroaches.

Madrid police shared photos of 54 cockroaches found crawling about the mysterious abandoned lunchbox.

“We have no idea how these giant cockroaches came to be here,” a police spokesman said, according to The Local. “Somebody must have dumped them.”

The cockroaches found in the box measured between 2 and 3 inches long and were from one of 20 known species of cockroaches that emit a hissing sound.

Officers from Madrid Police’s environmental unit collected the insects and took them to a wildlife center.
