Man in critical condition after auto-pedestrian accident in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car in Salt Lake City Wednesday night.

Lt. Dave Cracroft of the Salt Lake City Police Department told Gephardt Daily the auto-pedestrian accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. when two “intoxicated males” were crossing the street southbound on 1300 South near 135 West.

“They were not in a crosswalk and were struck by an eastbound silver SUV,” Cracroft said. “We have no indication of speed or intoxication from the driver of the car. One was struck and one wasn’t.

“It was unfortunate that they were intoxicated and wearing dark clothing, and the street is actually fairly dark right here. The driver just did not see him.”

The pedestrian was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, though he is expected to survive. The injured man has not been identified.

Cracroft said the driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. He said at this point it does not appear the driver will be cited.

The road, 1300 South, was closed from 300 West to West Temple as a Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team investigated the incident. It reopened at about midnight.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
