OGDEN, UTAH – July 18, 2015 (Gepardt Daily) Weber County Search and Rescue crews have recovered the body of a Clearfield man who went missing from his campground Thursday evening.

According to Sheriffs, the body was discovered Friday night by marine patrol deputies along with Weber County Search & Rescue divers.

Sheriffs Deputies say Seven Samuel Hughes, 29, of Clearfield, unexpectantly walked away from his campsite around 10:30 p.m. where he had been with family earlier on Thursday.

Hughes was reported missing to the Anderson Cove Campground earlier on Friday after family members had been searching for him since Thursday night but were unable to locate him.

On Friday morning, the family then contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report Hughes as missing.  According to family Hughes suffered from some mental health issues and it wasn’t uncommon for him to take off unannounced.

Deputies and marine patrol units searched the area through-out the day but were also unable to locate him.

Later in the afternoon, some clothing belonging to Hughes was found on the dock at Anderson Cove so dive teams were called and continued to search for him until just before dark.

Using newly acquired sonar equipment, marine patrol deputies continued to scour the area after dark by boat despite some adverse weather conditions.  Around 10:00 p.m., deputies located a possible body in the water and dive teams were called back-in.

Shortly before midnight, the recovered Hughes body from  20 feet of water about 20-30 from the boat dock.

Sheriff’s believe Hughes was the victim of drowning but the investigation is on-going.

His body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.

Tragically, Hughes’ death falls on the one-year mark of another drowning that occurred at Anderson Cove where a sixteen year-old girl’s body was recovered.  The Sheriff’s Office wishes to remind everyone to use caution whenever they go out on the water.  This includes never swimming alone and always having proper safety gear such as a lifejacket.
