BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, April 22, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Highway Patrol officials captured photos of a car fully engulfed in flames near Brigham City Thursday afternoon.
UHP troopers responded just after 1 p.m. to a call that a car was on fire on I-15 near mile marker 368. By the time troopers arrived, the 2002 blue Dodge Neon was fully engulfed.
The 37-year-old male driver, from Idaho, and his male passenger had both exited the vehicle safely and were not injured.
The driver said he had just put gas in the car, and just after he started driving it started to smell like smoke, then the engine quit. The driver pulled to the side of the interstate. When he checked the engine, he noticed it had caught fire.
By the time firefighters from the Brigham City Fire Department arrived, the fire also had spread to the grass along the right side of the freeway.
The fire was contained and all lanes were cleared by 2:30 p.m.
