Fourplex fire in South Salt Lake causes at least $120,000 in damages

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Aug. 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire at a fourplex caused between $120,000 and $150,000 in damages and left one unit a total loss Friday morning, officials said.

South Salt Lake Fire Marshal Russ Groves said crews responded to the blaze in the area of 300 E. 3155 South just after 5 a.m.

Groves said it took crews less than five minutes to arrive on scene, and they found smoke and fire coming from two windows in one of the units.

He said three of the four units are lived in, and four people from two units were helped to safety and were uninjured.

Groves said the fire was caused by food that was left on the stove, and the kitchen and living room of the unit where the fire began sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in less than 15 minutes, but Groves said the the unit is a total loss.

The Red Cross is assisting at the scene.
