WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, May 3, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — At about 2 p.m. Sunday, Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle fire near mile marker 25 of northbound Interstate 15.

“On arrival, crews found a fully involved pickup truck and toy hauler fifth-wheel trailer on the shoulder,” the HVF&R news release says.

“All occupants were able to exit safely prior to our arrival and were assessed by our paramedics on scene. No transports were required.

“Due to the amount of fuel and contents within the trailer, crews worked for approximately 45 minutes to contain the fire, which had also spread to some nearby vegetation.”

Long line of vehicles, including many trucks, stuck in heavy traffic on a sunny multi-lane highway.

Northbound I-15 was fully shut down for about one hour to allow for fire suppression and scene safety, the release says.

Units responding included E-41, E-43, E-61, L-46, BC-43, Medic 41, Medic 43, and 3A-665, along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Highway Patrol.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
