KEARNS, Utah, April 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police Department arrested an 18-year-old armed robbery suspect in Kearns early Wednesday morning.

Alexander Garcia of Kearns was taken for questioning and later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and fleeing, according to a news release from the department.

UPD Kearns precinct officers were dispatched on an armed robbery in progress at the 7-Eleven at 4637 W. 5415 South Wednesday at approximately 4:15 a.m., the news release said.

The clerk, who called 911, described the suspect as a man wearing dark clothing with a bandana over his face. He was armed with a gun and had held it to the clerk’s head. The clerk was able to retreat and lock herself inside a back room. She did not know if the suspect was still in the store.

As officers were responding to the store, a Kearns officer spotted a man matching the description of the robber, walking on the sidewalk near Kearns High School on Cougar Lane (4800 W. 5780 South).

When the officer turned on his spotlight to get a better view, the suspect ran. Other officers responded to the area and found him again, this time on Silvertip Drive (5160 W. 5500 South). The suspect then gave up and complied with officers commands.
