WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, July 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The size of the Kolob Fire, north of Virgin, has doubled overnight, according to information shared by Utah Fire Info.
Sunday morning GPS flight mapping put the human-caused fire at 601 acres, still 0% contained. The Saturday estimate was 300 to 350 acres.
A fact sheet from Interagency Fire, Color Country, says the Kolob Fire was reported at 5 p.m. Saturday. Two structures have been damaged but neither was destroyed, the update says.
Resources assigned include a helicopter, 15 fire engines, two dozers, two water tenders and a hand crew. Total personnel number 100. Conditions initially contributing to the fire include low humidity, dry fuel, high temperatures and strong winds.
The Sunday update includes a road closure in the Dalton Wash area.
Cooperating agencies include the Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, the Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Utah Highway Patrol, Hilldale Fire Department, Dammeron Valley Fire Department, Enterprise Fire Department, Cedar Mountain Fire Department, Washington County Emergency Management, and American Red Cross of Southern Utah.
