Fire and Explosions at Agriculture Chemical Warehouse in Pennsylvania
HANOVER, Pa., June 8 (UPI) — Firefighters responded to a large blaze at the Miller Chemical warehouse in Hanover, Pa., where residents within a one-mile radius were asked to remain indoors.
Explosions could be heard near the scene of the fire. Hazmat teams responded along with local and county emergency teams to the fire that started at about 3:30 a.m.
The smoke emitting from the fire was deemed not toxic and Miller Chemical said the warehouse does not house hazardous materials.
Miller Chemical produces agricultural chemicals, such as fertilizers. There were two maintenance workers inside the warehouse when the fire started, but their condition is not yet known. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
“One of the biggest plumes of smoke I’ve ever seen,” Beau Bowden, a resident who works near the plant, told NBC News. “I went to work and got into the building as soon as possible because I didn’t want to breathe any of the smoke.”
