LAVERKIN, Utah, Dec. 8, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A pipe bomb found near a shooting range in LaVerkin was safely detonated Sunday afternoon.

According to LaVerkin Police Chief Benjamin Lee, some passersby found a suspicious device off State Route 9 just before 11 a.m. and alerted the police. LaVerkin City police officers and the Washington County Bomb Squad team responded to the area and the device was determined to be a pipe bomb.

Chief Lee said the device appeared to have been there for quite some time, as there was a lot of corrosion on the metal.

“An investigation into how the device got there and who made it would be very difficult,” Chief Lee said.”The device has been there so long, there is nothing we have that could possibly lead us to identify who it belongs to at this point.”
