KETCHUM, Okla., July 4 (UPI) — Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe escaped without injury after running his plane off the runway during an emergency landing in Ketchum, Okla.
The senator, 81, was flying with another pilot, each in separate planes, when severe storms forced the two pilots to make unplanned landings at the Ketchum airfield.
A report by the Federal Aviation Authority showed Inhofe veered off the runway and into some brush in order to avoid a deer. The senator was unscathed.
Though the FAA report does not name the pilot, a representative for the senator told ABC News Inhofe was the piloting the plane involving in the incident.
According to Tulsa World, Inhofe has been involved in several incidents involve small aircraft. Mechanical difficulties have forced the senator to make several landings under duress — all without injury.
Inhofe’s youngest son, Dr. Perry Inhofe, was killed in a Owasso, Okla., crash during his first solo flight as a licensed pilot.
