WEST JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 7,. 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A member of the West Jordan City Council on Friday pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.
Witnesses told police that in July, Jeff Haaga left a bar while intoxicated, and hit a parked car on his way out of the parking lot.
Haaga initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea Friday morning.
Haaga will serve 180 days of supervised probation and will pay a fine. He has said he will not resign his seat on the city council.
A city council vote to censure Haaga did not get enough votes to pass.
Haaga’s attorney, Tyler Ayres, said his client made a mistake, admitted to it, and accepted responsibility, and there was no reason for him to resign.
