WEST JORDAN, Utah, Dec. 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A two-alarm fire in West Jordan that caused significant damage to a home Saturday afternoon re-ignited in the evening, rendering the structure a total loss.
A GoFundMe page set up by the family to assist with immediate needs states: “First the fire was started during the day and we were able to make it out of the house OK. Flames were extinguished with the help of the fire department but the home was considered unlivable. After we settled in a motel we received a call that the fire had reignited and the house was a total loss.”
Steve Holmes, battalion chief, West Jordan Fire Department, said of the original fire, at 6957 S. 5830 West: “At about 12:40, the occupant of the home was awoke by neighbors — he was sleeping — (and told) that the rear of his house was on fire. So that’s when he called us.
“When we got here, there was a significant amount of smoke and fire at the rear of the home that had already spread to the roof.”
Firefighters called for support, and a total of 35 firefighters were at the scene. Agencies on hand besides the West Jordan Fire Department were the West Jordan and South Jordan fire departments, and the Unified Fire Authority.
“The growth rate and the size of the fire was a little concerning, so (it made sense to) just make sure we have enough people to begin with,” Holmes said. “We just wanted to make sure we were prepared for anything we might get.”
No one was injured as a result of the fire, and no pets were lost, Holmes said.
That house reignited and is now a total loss
