HOLLADAY, Utah, Aug. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority crews battled a massive 3-alarm structure fire that was called in Saturday night and was still burning into the early hours of Sunday morning.
At 1:18 a.m. Sunday, the fire was finally extinguished, according to a tweet by UFA Public Information Officer Lt. Ryan Love. He said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
“Firefighters were able to preserve the garage,” Love tweeted. “The rest of the living space will most likely be a total loss.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
More than 30 units and 80-plus firefighters were on scene as flames consumed what UFA said was a 25,000-square-foot single-family home. The entire structure was so weakened by the fire that crews were no longer inside and were battling it from the exterior.
The blaze was reported at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday, and the caller said a lot of smoke was coming through the roof.
A short while later, Love told Gephardt Daily that crews initially had limited access to the structure, which is on the west side of Interstate 215, at 6085 S. Tolcate Woods Lane (2930 East).
As firefighters reached the home and were able to make entry through the garage, they were met with hazy, white smoke and limited visibility. Love said at the time that the fire was reported to be in the structure’s attic.
By about 10 p.m., Lt. Love tweeted that the burning building had fire on every level and the main floor was compromised, forcing fire crews to go into defensive mode and work to bring the blaze under control from outside.
Fire crews were expected to be on scene through the night and into Sunday.
