I Really Like That: Kobalt Cutters

These new Kobalt Cutters are a multi-cutter scissor-like tool that can be used to cut a variety of materials around the home. This multicutter jaw holds one replaceable knife blade. There is a ruler scale on the lower jaw of the cutters, which can help if you want to measure out what you are cutting.

[/one_fourth][three_fourth_last]These types of utility cutters are great for cutting rope, tubing, nylon zip ties and other such materials. Since the jaws can be spread the cutters can also be used on materials such as plastic packaging and cardboard boxes.

There are two different types of Cutters that you can find. There is a Cutter which is designed around a four-inch blade and another which is designed around a two-inch blade. You can get the replacement blades from either Lowe’s or Home Depot for about $5 and they come in a pack of five.

You can use the two-inch blade cutters in a shear-like manner or pivot and lock the lower jaw back into the handle to use them as you would a utility knife or small saw. There is a replacement blade compartment which holds two spare blades until you need them and can be opened with a fingernail. Replacing the blade is a little tricky. You need to loosen two screws on the left side of the tool. There is also a built in three-foot tape measurer with metric and inch markings.

The large four-inch blades, as with the smaller cutter, is able to fold the lower jaw back exposing a four-inch razor sharp blade. The lower jaw must be pushed back into the handle so that it is able to look like a saw. Unlike the shorter cutter, the four-inch has a straight blade as well as a serrated saw blade. Both are available in replacement blades.

On both of the cutters when the handles are squeezed closed there is a sliding blue safety switch that can be pushed forward to prevent the spring-action handles from accidentally opening in your tool bag.

We were able to get the both of them for just over $10.
