Netflix Expanding into Italy, Spain and Portugal Says CEO
Already available in more than a dozen European countries, Netflix will move into the three European countries as it eyes its goal of reaching 200 countries in two years.
“This autumn, Internet users in Portugal will be able to subscribe to Netflix and instantly watch a broad selection of TV series and movies in high-definition or even Ultra HD 4K on nearly any Internet-connected screen,” the company said in written statement, using the same language for the Italy and Spain launch.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said the offerings in Spain will be similar to the Netflix streaming version in France and Germany, but two of the company’s popular series — House of Cards and Orange is the New Black — will not be available. He said the pricing has yet to be established but will be similar to other European countries.
“I think Spain is going to be one of our most successful countries,” Hastings said. “There is a very high penetration of broadband Internet, and people are used to e-commerce and have shown they are interested in our product.”
