WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 13 (UPI) — The Board of Directors of Tinder announced Wednesday that its founder, Sean Rad, will replace Christopher Payne as CEO of the company.

Payne has only been at the company for a few months. He had been hired in March from eBay after holding positions at Amazon and Microsoft. A top Tinder staffer said that there was a “mutual agreement” that Payne would not fit well with the company in the long term. Payne agreed with this sentiment and said that a quick transition to a new CEO “served everybody best.”

Rad will work closely with Greg Blatt, current chairman of The Match Group, who will assume the newly created position of Executive Chairman of Tinder. Both individuals said that Tinder has a great future ahead of it and that they are excited about its prospects.

News of the leadership change come after Tinder was mentioned in a Vanity Fair article that discussed the negative impact of dating apps like Tinder on young people. The company was fiercely critical of the article but has since acknowledged that it “overreacted.”

The press release explains that Tinder was launched in 2012 and is currently a globally leading matchmaking app. It claims that “26 million matches are made on Tinder” every day.
