“Big Eyes”

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – April 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Directed and produced by Tim Burton, “Big Eyes” is based on the true story of Margaret Keane, played by Amy Adams.

Margaret was one of the most successful painters of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and garnered staggering fame by revolutionizing the commercialization and accessibility of popular art with her enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes.

Her husband, Walter, played by Christoph Waltz, for a decade took credit for his wife’s work but the truth would eventually be discovered.

“Big Eyes” focuses on Margaret’s awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband.

One of the best films last year, the film offers up terrific performances by both Adams and Waltz.

It gets an A and is rated PG-13.

“The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death”

As bombs rain down on London during the Blitz of World War II, a group of school children are evacuated with Eve, their young and beautiful schoolteacher, to the safety of the English countryside. They are taken to an old and abandoned estate, cut-off by a causeway from the mainland where strange things begin to happen.

As the children begin acting strangely, Eve discovers the group has awoken a dark force she must now confront to save the children.

The sequel to “The Woman in Black” is a throwback to those 60’s and 70’s English horror films done by Hammer. That’s not to say the film isn’t good, on the contrary, the film will surprise you here and there.

Overall the movie has some splendid moments without going too far over the top. It gets a B- and is rated PG-13.
