LOS ANGELES – November 2, 2015 — (UPI) — Locks of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain‘s hair and clothes worn by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and other items from legendary musicians are up for auction.
Fans can bid on a piece of the rock icons at the Celebrity Auction at Julien’s Live Auctions.
Strands of Cobain’s hair were given to doll maker and comic artist Dame Darcy by Courtney Love to create a doll for the couple’s daughter, Frances. Cobain died in 1994. The lock, which is at a starting bid of $4,000, was leftover from the making of the doll.
Music fans can be a part of rock history by bidding on instruments and clothing that were used in various recordings and performances by luminaries including Presley,Steven Tyler, Eddie Vedder and more.
A big ticket item is John Lennon‘s Acoustic Gibson J-160E, which was used to compose early Beatles’ hits like “Love Me Do.” The guitar was thought to be missing for years and showed up in a San Diego music shop in 1967. No one knew that this was Lennon’s guitar until 2008.
“Its importance in Beatles history cannot be overstated; this guitar is intimately bound to the early career of The Beatles,” Julien’s Live told Rolling Stone.
The opening bid for the guitar is $300,000.

– Presley’s 24-karat gold leaf piano – Cobain’s cardigan from MTV Unplugged taping –Ringo Starr‘s The Ludwig bass drumhead from his drumkit – Tyler’s insurance card – Vedder’s handwritten Pearl Jam lyrics – Jackson’s pajamas worn in the “Leave Me Alone” video.
