LOS ANGELES, May 14 (UPI) — The Cosby Show alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner is to play former professional football player A.C. Cowlings in the 10-part FX drama American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.

Variety reported the casting news.

Cowlings gained notoriety for his role in driving the white Bronco carrying his friend Simpson during a televised Los Angeles police chase after Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife and her friend. Simpson was eventually acquitted of the crimes, but found responsible for the deaths in a civil trial. No one else has been charged in connection with the slayings.

Simpson is now serving a prison sentence for an unrelated armed robbery.

Cuba Gooding Jr. is to play Simpson in the series, while Sarah Paulson will play prosecutor Marcia Clark. Simpson’s defense team of Robert Shapiro, Johnnie Cochran and Robert Kardashian will be played respectively by John Travolta, Courtney Vance and David Schwimmer. Selma Blair will play Kardashian’s wife Kris.
