Actress Patty Duke Passes Away At 69

HOLLYWOOD, March 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke has passed away from sepsis from a ruptured intestine, according to ABC News.

Duke earned an Academy Award when she was just 16 for playing Helen Keller in “The Miracle Worker” (1962). The actress became a household name when she took on the dual roles of Patty and Cathy Lane, identical cousins in “The Patty Duke Show” (1963-1966).

“This morning, our beloved wife, mother, matriarch and the exquisite artist and champion of mental health, Anne Patty Duke, closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place,” read a family statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The actress won Emmy Awards for her performances in “My Sweet Charlie” (1970), “Captains and Kings” (1976), and the TV version of “The Miracle Worker” (1979).

Duke was Emmy nominated eight times during her career.

Duke won a Golden Globe as Most Promising Newcomer for “The Miracle Worker,” as well as a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
