Lady Gaga previewed her bloody look for “American Horror Story: Hotel” by posing as her Countess of Bathory-inspired character for Entertainment Weekly.

“I prefer the term ‘ancient blood virus’ [to vampirism]. It’s really a form of hemophilia in a way,” he said of the character in the interview. The real-life Hungarian countess was accused of killing hundreds of young women in 1610, and is said to have bathed in blood in an attempt to retain her youth.

Lady Gaga will portray the modern-day Countess, who owns the Cortez Hotel referenced in the show’s title. Murphy previously revealed the singer will play an “evil” character whose nefarious agenda plays out throughout the season.

“I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness,” Lady Gaga shared. “It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — Horror Story fans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself.”

American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere Oct. 7. The season was preceded by Murder House, Asylum, Coven and Freak Show, and will co-star returning actors Sarah Paulson,Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock and Wes Bentley.
