HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The family friendly animated film “Kung Fu Panda 3” debuted in the No. 1 spot this weekend.

The film, starring the vocal talents of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Bryan Cranston, Angelina Jolie and Lucy Liu, didn’t break any major records at the box office, but the film franchise has about $1.4 billion in earnings.

Dropping from its first place position to second place is Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant,” which earned $12.4 million over the weekend. The film has earned a total of $138.1 million domestically in its six-week run.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is still hanging on in the top five films. The reboot is at No. 3 with a total of $10.7 million. The record-breaking film has a domestic total of $895.4 million with a worldwide take of $1.9 billion.

Chris Pine’s “The Finest Hours” is in fourth place, earning $10.3 million its opening weekend. The film, which also stars Eric Bana and Casey Affleck, is performing pretty much as industry experts predicted.
