Women Film Critics Circle: ‘Favourite’ is 2018’s Best Film About Women

Dec. 15 (UPI) — The Women Film Critics Circle has declared “The Favourite” the Best Film About Women released in 2018.

Its star Olivia Colman was also honored as Best Actress and Best Comedic Actress. The cast also includes Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.

Elsie Fisher, 15, was named Best Young Actress for her performance in “Eighth Grade,” which was deemed the year’s Best Family Film.

“Widows” earned the accolade for Best Ensemble. It stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Jacki Weaver and Elizabeth Debicki.

Weaver won the Worst Screen Mom of the Year Award and Davis was recognized with a special mention for her acting and activism.

Ellen Burstyn won the group’s lifetime achievement award.

“Black Panther” earned the prizes for Best Female Action Heroes and Best Equality of the Sexes.

Director Marielle Heller’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” won the award for Best Movie By a Woman and Audrey Wells posthumously won the Best Woman Storyteller screenwriting prize for “The Hate U Give.”

Ethan Hawke was elected Best Actor for his work in “First Reformed.”

“Roma” was named Best Foreign Film By or About Women and “RBG” won for Best Documentary By or About Women.

“If Beale Street Could Talk”‘s Tish and Fonny — played by KiKi Layne and Stephan James — were chosen as Best Screen Couple and “Incredibles 2” was singled out for Best Animated Females.
