HOLLADAY, Utah, Dec. 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One driver under the influence and one driver possessing drugs were arrested after a total of 563 vehicles came through a Unified Police Department DUI checkpoint in Holladay that began Friday night.

A tweet from the department said the 5-hour checkpoint at northbound 3400 S. Highland Drive also netted one open container, one recovered stolen car, two other traffic violations and one arrest for felony fleeing.

The checkpoint ran from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a Facebook post from Unified police.

“In an effort to promote safe driving through the holiday season, the Unified Police Department will be conducting an administrative DUI checkpoint starting Dec. 28, from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m.,” the post said.

“Utah law requires that DUI checkpoints be published in advance. With this public notice, UPD hopes Utah drivers will make safe, alternative plans to prevent impaired driving.”

As of 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Utah has also enacted the nation’s toughest anti-drunk driving law by lowering the BAC limit from .08 to .05.
